GMAT, DC, Salzburg, Germany Apr. 21st, 2009 @ 09:11 pm
Wow, its been a long time since I last wrote here so I have alot to make up. In the Fall I was practicing a long time for the GMAT test which was really annoying. I followed the elections and voted for McCain...unfortunately he did not get elected. For Thanksgiving I went home to Maryland and met Iria there...it was her second time at my house. We had a good time doing many things, such as visiting smithsonians, visiting the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, hanging out with Thomas, eating at a Spanish restaurant, and other stuff. The next weekend I took the GMAT and while I did decently in the English section, I froze on a question in the math section which hurt my score alot since it is a timed event. It was a question where I had to convert miles per hour to feet per second as a part of it. I then had to guess like the next 5 questions...I should have just quickly guessed on that one and moved on to improve my score. In the end I got a 570, which is disappointing for me (with higher standards) but not bad overall. But at $250 and lasting several hours, I will NOT take the test again. In December I flew to Europe, landing in Munich. I took a train to Salzburg, arriving on Saturday evening. I met my friend there at a Christmas market, then walked around the old town at night which was really nice. I met a turkish friend in the evening and hung out with her (and some of her friends who were mainly turkish) at some places in the old town. In the end it was fun and we ended the night in Roses. During the next day I walked around again, went shoping, and really enjoyed my time there. I took alot of pictures, like I always do, of places Ive been to countless times since I lived there and visited many times as well. The next morning (Monday) I took a train to Munich for an interview at the TUM for an Executive MBA. I walked around Munich for a bit in the old town before the interview. There were 3 people on the other side of the table asking me questions corresponding to 3 sections, and the majority of the time I was speaking in German. I was nervous, especially with a few of the questions posed, and was unsure of the outcome when I left. Then I went to the trainstation to get my bag and head to Mannheim through Ulm. I wanted to visit Ulm, but on the train ride it started to snow with alot of wind and then it got so bad that the only thing I saw out the window was white! I went straight to Mannheim, where I met up with a couchsurfer, spoke to her for a while since she was really nice (and a english teacher who studied at someplace that sounded dull somewhere in the US although she is German). During the next morning I walked around Mannheim, and then had an interview that went really well. Afterwards the interviewer (who is a staff member of the program there) showed me around the University and a bit of the city. Although the city is large, it wasnt that scenic. It has a very strange numbering system of the streets...its so complicated but it involves numbers and letters. Then I went to Bonn where I met Alex (a former roommate.) We went to his apartment which was cool since it overlooks the Rhine river. Also we drove around and he showed me various parts of the city (even a notorious part involving alot of women standing around the road which seemed random at first.) The next day I had an interview at the WHU in a little town of Vallendar, close to Koblenz. A member of the staff picked me up and then drove me to the university, passing the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. It was impressive. Anyways, the University and people were nice, I met a professor, students, staff, visited the interesting buildings and even sat in on a class. A month previously I had a phone interview and I was already accepted, so I didnt have an interview there. Afterwards I went back to Bonn and went to an interesting exhibit or Romans and the barbarians, which displayed some Roman objects and also alot of items from the Barbarians, ranging from weapons to amber. Then I visited a couple near Bonn who studied in Charlotte and just had a kid. It was a good time talking, but I think I stayed there a bit too late since he had to work the next day. It was nice that he drove me back because I was so tired. The next morning I walked around town, took some pictures of the old town of Bonn, and then took the train to Berlin where I met Josy. I only had 24 hours in Berlin so we tried to do as much as possible. We walked around, got dinner, took lots of pictures all over at night with tons of christmas lights in places like Under den Linden, the brandenburg gate, the Berliner Rathaus, and others. There was a nice christmas market too. The next morning we woke up, drove to the Bendlerblock and took a tour...that was the building where the events of the movie 'Valykrie' took place (I saw the movie on new years eve, with Tom Cruise as Von Stauffenberg.) Afterwards we went to the US Embassy (I worked as an intern at the old one), and toured the inside. We then went to a historical cemetery, Invalidenfriedhof, which had interesting graves and its own history as a divided cemetery since the Berlin wall ran though it. That was were the most famous soldiers were buried...I guess our equivalent would be Arlington Cemetery, although there are noticeable differences between the 2. We went back to downtown, visited another christmas market, went into the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedaechtniskirche, then to the Kadewe and I took alot of pictures. That evening I went to the airport and flew to Spain...next post will follow where this one leaves off.

Las Vegas, Iria here, traveling around NC, Pompeii exhibit Aug. 5th, 2008 @ 11:23 pm
Yes, its been a while since Ive written last. On my third day of my job hunt after being laid off, I was called and told that I was accepted for another position at Bank of America. I was really happy, since I didnt have to interview with a small company or anything...and with that relief I played gold the next day and then a few days later I flew out to Las Vegas to see Iria. And I got paid for it. So when I was in Las Vegas, we went to the strip several times to walk around. We also went to 2 time share presentations to get free stuff...kinda boring and time consuming, but alright. Yes they were pushy, and no we didnt buy anything. But as a result, we did get to eat at Caesars palace (nice), the Venetian shoppes (disappointing), went to the wax museum, got money, got a free gondola ride with an Austrian from Tirol, and we also went to the club in Caesars palace, which was nice...the clubs were Pure and the Pussycats Doll Lounge. We also went shopping. About 2 weeks later, Iria came here for a few weeks. The first weekend we went to Asheville, and spend that Saturday driving through the blue ridge parkway and the smokey mountains, going through Cherokee (an indian reservation with a casino) and ending in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was alot of fun and very interesting, but ending in a HUGE rain storm driving back. The next day we visited downtown Asheville, getting a bunch of books, and then we went to Grandfather mountain, where we saw a waterfall and a nice valley. On the way back, we saw a the Salzburg restaurant...I couldnt believe it! I will go there some time. The next weekend Iria and I went in the other direction...first to Wilmington, NC. After waking up on saturday morning, we went to a German restaurant, walked around, and went a WW2 battleship, the USS North Carolina. It was really interesting (and I even bought a book about the ship later.) We then went to see a lighthouse, and in the evening were the fireworks, but it was impossible to drive downtown and get a parking spot. So when we were in the area and the fireworks started, we pulled the car to the side of the road, double parked, and watched them. The next day we drove to Raleigh. We saw the dead sea scrolls exhibit, went to the museum of art to see the roman collection (both were small and dissapointing), the state house, and went to a nice independent book store...we saw lots of new books that you wouldnt see at a chain book store...we were there for 2 or 3 hours. That evening we went to another couchsurfers house, and spoke to the hosts for about 2 hours. The next day, we went to Chapel Hill see the Duke campus (it was ok) and the museum (it SUCKED), and then drove to Durham to see UNC(campus was not nice) but the art museum was pretty good for a school. We then drove back. (By the way, during the week days we didnt do anything note worthy). The evening before she left we went dancing at Buckheads, which we both enjoyed. The next day we went to see the Pompeii exhibit in downtown Charlotte. There were alot of objects reflecting various topics, and while it was interesting, it was not very academic...it was more family friendly. But it was still nice and took lots of pictures. Afterwards she went back to Las Vegas, and me home. Since then I got water in my ear, which is really annoying, and have been studying alot for the GMAT, in addition to looking at MBA programs in Germany.

Miami, Iria's visit, shaking Hillary's hand, Birthday party, losing job May. 24th, 2008 @ 12:17 am
So I have a lot of time to cover, about 2 months, in this entry. The second part of spring break was to Miami:
Iria and I stayed at a Banker's house from Brazil, who lived in the financial district and invited us out to eat twice. We were in Miami for a few days, seeing the Art museum (with a few Roman items), Coral Gables in the rain (a COMPLETE waste of time), Vizcaya (a really interesting italian-style villa), little Miami, Miami Beach (we even saw a crime scene right after a homeless person was shot and there were 4 news helicopters right in a row directly over us), we walked around Lincoln Road (it looks really nice, but we got ripped off and twice by restaurants, even from the German one)...we also listened to a LONG time share presentation so we could get discounted tickets to an everglades excursion (which was interesting, but very quick) and a free boat tour of Miami harbor (which was nice to see some big houses of celebrities, although it was amid heavy rain). When walking around we saw an Alliance France (ok, I cant spell in french), and I bought a book in Italian. We then took a night bus back to Tampa, where I met another couchsurfer, who happens to be from Austria...we had a nice talk. In Tampa we walked around the University and the old Tampa Hotel before going to the airport and coming home.
I didnt see Iria again until a few weeks ago, when she was flying back from Kentucky and was in the Airport here for only 2.5 hours or so. I met her there, got a pass to go through security, and we had a nice dinner together. It was really strange to see her in an airport for such a short period of time, but I would take any chance I get. I also went to a campaign rally for Hillary Clinton...Im not a fan, but I listened to the whole thing and on her way out I was able to shake her hand. I had a nice birthday party on May 2nd, with a bunch of co-workers and some Germans there. We had a nice BBQ, and the Germans gave me a signed soccer ball, in addition to a soccer jersey for my favorite team in the Bundesliga...1. FC Nürnberg. That evening we had a good time dancing in the Forum. A few days later my roommates left and I got new ones...also from Germany.
On monday we had an "emergency meeting" and because of "restructuring" I lost my job in addition to numerous co-workers. I think the whole situation is wrong, especially after a statement 2 weeks ago from some one very high up in the company saying there wouldnt be any more layoffs...at a town hall meeting with many, many people watching and listening. I wont get into any more details except I am fighting for a position within the bank, with the title "International Assignment Services Adviser." It sounds really interesting, I had a pre-screening today with the recruiter as well, but I dont want to get my hopes up. In about 6.5 hours one of my roommates and I will drive to Charleston for Memorial Day weekend. By the next blog entry, I hope I can give you some good news job wise, and cut off my laid off beard!

Florida for Spring Break, part 1 Apr. 14th, 2008 @ 09:14 pm
So I havent wrote an entry in 11 weeks since not much happened until recently. Iria and I went to Florida for spring break, which was fun. Here is what we did:
Day 1 - Arrive in tampa, was picked up by a couchsurfer (an older guy) and some of his family. We rode to his house, went through a car wash (soaking our bags in the back), and he gave us the keys to his truck when we got there. At first I refused, but he insisted, so Iria drove us. First we went from his house to St. Petersburg, checked out an old book show, then we walked around, went to the Museum of Art (it was ok, but the Roman section was a pretty small), and then went to an interesting Vatican Museums exhibit, with items throughout the last 2000 years concerning the Vatican, popes, and famous people (such as a letter from Michaelangelo.) We also had alot of Ben & Jerrys...lots of chocolate. We then went to the pier, which was interesting and had lots of pelicans. In the evening, we went back to the couchsurfer's house, and then we went to a nice cuban restaurant that was cheap with huge portions.
Day 2 - On the second day we took the truck and drove along the coast to Sarasota. (We stopped along the way to go to a huge used book store, with lots of interesting but overpriced books.) In Sarasota, we went to the Ringling Museum, which had a really large art museum (it was better then expected), and also the Ca d'zan, which is a venetian style palace on the waterfront, with old furnishings inside. We also saw the circus museums. We then drove back to Tampa, had dinner at a greek restaurant in Ybor City, (for some reason a weird waiter threw lots of napkins at all the people eating,) and then we drove back to his house. His daughter drove us to the bus station, and then we took a night bus to Miami (with a stop in Orlando...night busses suck.)
For the next entry, I will describe our time in Miami.

Christmas, New Years, Savannah Jan. 27th, 2008 @ 10:00 pm
I know I havent written anything in a while, so here it goes. Right before Christmas I was invited to a house party by one of the people that play soccer with me. It was a really nice upscale house party, with a bunch of really cool outdoor heaters. Anyways, some of the girls were trying to be DJs (and choosing the worst songs) with people dancing in the living room, so I took over was the DJ for at least 2 hours, completely saving the night. Alot of people came up to me and thanked me for doing that. I flew up to Maryland for about 5 days for Christmas, and it was alright. I saw a few friends, and even hung out with thomas a couple times. I went to a couple museums in DC, including the archives and the portrait gallery. I also went to the Library of Congress. I got a library card, went to the main reading room, and there I got some really rare books, that would cost hundreds or thousands, which was interesting. I also looked at a few really old German ones (even one about Salzburg over a hundred years old.) I saw the bar where Thomas works, and some really funny complaints that they received. I spent some time with my sisters, and also my dad. There was a market near where my dad works downtown, and there was a stand with old prints. When I was going through the Germany section, I found a print from Salzburg over 100 years ago, and I bought it. (My sister Sandra said she would get it matted, so I can put it in a frame.) On christmas eve I went to the house of my stepfather's sister for a stocking party. It was ok, but I felt out of place (its a yearly thing, and havent been to one in 6 years I think.) For christmas, I almost only got clothes. And of those, it was almost only shirts. But sandra did get me a nice Armani Exchange shirt. I flew back to Charlotte on Christmas day, since I worked the next day. Fun.

I was planning on maybe going downtown for new years, but a couch surfer called me and said that she was invited by another couchsurfer to a private party. I picked her up (she is an au pair), and the house she is staying at is huge. Not as big as the ones in Potomac, and the yards there were also much smaller then in Potomac, but it was impressive for Charlotte. The party was fun...there were alot of British guys there. The only thing, though, was that their humor and the couch surfers humor wasnt really my type, so basically I was just sitting there listening to others most of the time. But the british guys did have alot of stories. After christmas not much happened until Iria came here for MLK weekend. It was really nice, especially since she spent almost a week. We had lunch downtown a few times, and we even went dancing friday night with the other Germans, which was fun.

The next morning we went to the airport, rented a car, drove back home to leave mine here, and then we drove to Savannah Georgia, stopping in a really small town in SC along the way to go antique shopping. We arrived in Savannah in the evening, left our things at a couch surfers house (who had a couple huge dogs which didnt leave me alone), and drove downtown. We went to an upscale Italian restaurant "Garibaldi", and then a british pub, before going home. (Note: it was FREEZING.) The next day we went book shopping, and then drove into historic Savannah. The town is nice, but alot like Charleston. We took a guide of the trolley going around town and we walked it, seeing the most important places, and also alot of squares and parks. (One of them is Wright square.) I took lots of pictures of everything, but I really liked the huge oaks with the hanging spanish moss. After walking through town and the waterfront, we went to the old cemetery. We had 8 minutes to drive around and take pictures, and we did just that. It was interesting, but we didnt even have time to leave the car. After that, we had to decide what to do next...go to a fort, an island, or just eat dinner before going on a ghost tour. Iria decided to go to a pizza place. She got a bit impatient, since it took maybe 30 minutes to bring us a pepperoni pizza. Afterwards we went to the Sorrel Weed for a visit to the house and ghost tour. It was interesting, but I dont believe in ghosts so it wasnt scary or anything. Afterwards, we drove back (arriving really late.) The next day we didnt do much, except get lost driving around town, returning the car, going home fore a few hours, and then going to the airport. Since Im such a nice guy, not only did I park the car and inside with her, I also got a voucher to go through security to escort Iria to the plane, which I did. Since then, I havent been doing much, except reading, TV, and video games. This weekend I didnt do that much productive. Soon Iria and I will plan our spring break and trip to Europe in August.

» Thanksgiving with Iria
Iria and I met in Utah for thanksgiving, staying at a cool Aunt's house. Iria met a bunch of my family, including my grandparents, and we just ate and played games on thanksgiving. The next day we went shopping (I really like the day after thanksgiving sales), and I got movies, ps2 game, and clothes. The next day we drove to Park city, walking around town and seeing some of the olympic sites. We also went to a coin shop, and for dinner we went to a japanese restaurant since the German restaurant closed. (On the way back my Aunt got pulled over for speeding, which was questionable.) The next day I flew back to Charlotte, and Iria to Vegas. It was nice, but really short. Since then I havent done too much...just work hard, and spend alot of time watching TV, surfing ebay, and writing in my book. Now Im home for christmas in Maryland, and Ill write more about that next time.
» Everything since Europe
I know...Ive been so terrible at not updating, but I got a condensed entry to make up for it. After coming back in early september, Thomas came down and we went to a gun show, in addition to driving to to Charleston, S.C. It was fun. Iria was here, and we did a road trip to the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, N.C....its the largest home in the US. It is like a castle and really nice. We also went to the Renaissance Festival...was fun, but cheesy. I got some funny pictures from there. She also gave me a few things she got last summer from Scotland! Of course Ive danced alot since then, bought lots of new books (I just got one to teach myself Japanese), got some more coins, and....a playstation 2. I know, its such a distraction, but it was kinda cheap from a friend, I got a bunch of games, and its been fun. Ive also played (real) soccer once a week for the last 2 months or so...2 days ago I played for 3 hours straight! My legs are still very tired. Also last weekend a guy from Switzerland messaged me, and now we are practicing German through skype (you would think I would get alot of practice with my roommates, but the sad truth is that Im not really.) Ive been working on my book, and I have over 30,000 words now. I also just opened up an investment account with Edward Jones, and hopefully it was a good decision and my finances will grow. Ive also been thinking about traveling next summer for 2 weeks...Spain and Germany! And in 2009...Japan! I have also sold my first thing on ebay...a book from 1914 from Germany for $31. I used my $400 flight voucher, only having to pay a couple bucks extra, and for thanksgiving Iria and I will be meeting in Utah, where I have some family. It should be fun, and I havent had a normal american thanksgiving since 2003, and not one with family since 2000. Maybe I will even ski a day, since the slopes open the day after thanksgiving.
» My trip to Europe (part 3)
Florence: I arrived in Florence without a place to stay, AND MY CREDIT CARD WAS SHUT OFF FOR A FEW DAYS (a HUGE inconvience, since they thought buying an italian train ticket online was risky and I had to call the bank in the U.S. like 8 times before they thought it was really me and turned it back on) but I just walked around at the station, found a guy there that works for a hostel, and he gave me a ride to one. We were speaking in italian, because (its hard to believe but) my italian was actually better then his english. After I checked in, I walked into downtown with my camera and took really nice pictures. I also bought a cool pair of sunglasses and a fake rolex (which didnt work the next morning!) from one of those african street workers. The next morning, I walked around again, went to the tomb of the medicis, 2 palaces, the cathedral, and the Pontevecchio. I also wanted to go to the uffizi, but the line was WAY too long!!! Then I headed off to Rome...

Rome: As you all know, Rome is very special to me, since I really like Roman History. And it was the 3rd time of been there. Once again, I showed up at the train station, found a guy that works for a hostel, went and put down my bags there, took a shower cause I was sweating like crazy, then I went into town. I went to the colosseum, and like always I picked up a ticket that was dropped, since you can then can get in free to the Palatine Hill. So thats what I did...even though Ive been there twice before. The views from there are really nice, and the museum is interesting. Afterwards, I walked around the other forums, pantheon, and it was the first time I went to the Trevi fountain. The next day I had a REALLY busy day, of course. In 1 day, I visited the following museums: Palazzo massimo alle terme, baths of diocletian, palazzo altemps, crypta balbi, and the ara pacis (with a wierd exhibition of Valentino dresses in the same space). I walked alot through the city as well, visiting many places and taking tons of pictures. Of course I really liked the museums, and got some nice night shots of the city as well, but I had to walk for hours just to get a couple of that I really wanted, even though my feet were aching. The next morning I woke up, walked through the imperial forumn, and then got a train to Naples.

Naples: Naples is an interesting city...its nice, but trashy, cool but dangerous, etc. And its not like any city north of there, thats for sure. And it was my 3rd time there. Anyways, I arrived at the station and guess what...nobody that worked for a hostel was there. I talked to the information people, and they said there was only 1 hostel and I had to take a train to the other side of the city. I didnt think that could be right, but I went anyways. On the train, I saw a group of backpackers (from Australia), and I asked them if they knew where a hostel was. They said they were heading to one at the moment, so I decided to tag along. When we got there, we were greeting by a really quirky man, who made us awesome shrimp pasta, and then for 45 minutes (we were all falling asleep) he was telling us where to go in the city. I mean come on...I was leaving the next day to Berlin and the others new exactly where they wanted to go. Afterwards, I immediately went to the National Archaeological Museum, which is really world famous. They had 1 statue which is the largest preserved Roman statue in the world. Also there were unbelieveable mosaics, paintings, objects, etc. There was also a secret cabinet, which had items and paintings from brothels, and other items with that subject. Afterwards, (in the evening) I went to Spaccianapoli (the heart of naples) walked around, got a pizza, and walked towards the harbor. The guy at the hostel told me not to, but I did it anyways. It was nice to see the sights, but it was at night and only got a few pictures. When I was looking at the harbor I thought to myself...this is my last night in Italy for at least a year...maybe more. Its the end of my 2 week trip. The next morning I flew to Berlin.

Berlin (again): My friend picked me up at the airport, and we took it easy that day. We walked around a lake that I went to many times when I lived in Berlin, went shopping at a mall, and in the evening we walked around the Ku'damm in Berlin. And we ate Austrian food at the Wienerwald, which Ive been to a few times already in 2005. I even saved the bottle of Almdudler, and brought it back here. Afterwards, we walked around the area a bit, went back to her house, and the next morning I went to the airport. The absolute rudest airline worker (from Airfrance, even though I wasnt flying on that airline) checked me in, insulted me, and because of that a dutch guy behind me insulted me as well. I turned around and yelled back at him. Anyways, she made me check in my bag, which was ridiculous, since I carried it on board before, and it was really light. And the bag was lost...no surprise there! When I came back to work the next day, all my coworkers were really jealous, but enjoyed seeing all my pictures.

Ive done alot of things since then, but I will leave it for the next entry.
» My trip to Europe (part 2)
Salzburg: Of course I went back to Salzburg, and it was awesome! It was the first time I saw the sun in Salzburg since studying there in 2004! I did alot of things...walking through the old city, went to a Red Bull soccer game, went to the Cafe Stein terrase overlooking the city, bought a Franz Josef medal, and also got an authentic Austrian Trachen suit. I also got a funny book, written from the Ausrian perspective, making fun of all countries in Europe with 1 exception of course. It was really nice to walk around the usual places in town, and it was also nice to see an old Karate friend. I then took a train and went south.

Kufstein: Although I only had 1 hour to change trains in this really nice mountainous city in Tirol, along with some heavy bags, I decided to lug them around so I can see the city. I was really happy I did...the place is really nice. I wish I could have spent a day or 2 seeing the old buildings, but I just had enough time to take a few pictures and make a call. I then went by train, during a wonderfully sunny day through the alps, crossing Tirol and South Tirol, ending in Verona.

Verona: I arrived in the evening, wasnt going to visit my friend till the next day, and since she didnt pick up I had to go to a hotel. (There was only 1 hostel in town and it was much too far to walk.) Anyways, after putting my things down I walked into the old city of Verona, walking around Piazza Bra, the arena, the old bridges and churches, before finally going up the hill overlooking the city. The hill had old roman ruins from an old theater, and on top it had a castle. Overhearing some girls speaking German, I started talking to them. I asked them if they were Austrian because of their accent, and they said they were German. I asked them where they are from...a town right on the other side of the border from Salzburg. Anyways, after talking I continued walking around the river, and when I was on the most famous bridge in town a random italian guy and I started talking about tons of stuff...pretty random, but interesting. The next day I met my friend, we went to her parents house for some food, and went back to town walking around and seeing a few things. Although Ive been to Verona before, in 2004, it was nice to see the place. I bought a few things, and took tons of pictures. We also drove to Lake Garda, which is an awesome lake with mountains in the distance...and the whole area seems to be colonized by Germans. That evening we went to a mall, and that night I met another italian friend from my trip over there. The next day we walked around a bit, took a train to Milan, met up with her boyfriend, and went to Lugano.

Lugano (Switerland): We got there, and it was a bit rainy and cold. That evening we just talked and watched TV. The next morning we walked around, they showed me some of the sights, and I departed. I took some pictures, and bought a few items, but not too many. The whole place was italian in language, but with a very boring architecture and style. Anyways, I then took the train to Florence.

Stay tuned for Part 3!
» Report from my trip to Europe (part 1)
Ive been a bit busy to post about my trip, after coming back on 9/3. It was an awesome time, except for a few sucky parts, and I got to see a bunch of friends and visit cool places...from Berlin to Naples, with many cities in between! The weather was almost always awesome, and its the first time I saw the sun since I studied in Salzburg in 2004, although I go there every year.

Berlin: Berlin was cool, stayed with a friend from the embassy, did some new things like go to the Zeughaus, Bodemuseum, bought some books at the flea market behind the cathedral, walked around, and toured a WWII air raid bunker. It was alot of fun, and very interesting.

Frankfurt: I went to Frankfurt to visit the Bank of America office, and to introduce myself to the head people there. Its a small (but really nice looking) place. Too bad they only have 40 people...my chances there dont look good, but they said the military bank with BoA has about 1,500 people in Germany, so maybe I try that. Then I saw a friend who I worked with in Berlin, had dinner with her and her friends, and took a night train to Vienna.

Vienna: I havent seen much of Vienna, so this was a really cool experience. I saw the imperial treasures in the Hofburg, the Kaisers Crypt, walked around the Ringstrasse, hung out with the some of the couch surfing community, and just walked around alot.

Melk: I took a day trip to Melk, which is really a huge and imposing monastery in perched over a small town. It was nice, but 2 hours was more then enough.

Linz: Linz was cool, I walked around alot, and took some nice pictures. Even though its close to Salzburg, and I was supposed to study there was, I never went there before. I was supposed to also visit Passau that day, but due to the bad train connection I skipped it and went directly to...

Salzburg: Yes, back to Salzburg! (Report to be continued.)
